Loss, grief and heartbreak
Trauma or abuse recovery

My clients are adults with many strengths who find themselves either facing things they don’t want (worry, depression, relationship difficulties) or feeling blocked in achieving the things they do want (career change, a good relationship, more self-confidence).

We will work together to understand what is going on, how your present situation may have gotten to where it is, and how you would like to see things evolve in the future. Patterns that were useful or even necessary in earlier parts of your life may be getting in your way now. Sometimes the simple act of hearing yourself discuss your thoughts and concerns with a caring, nonjudgmental professional helps untangle some emotional knots.

I often utilize a therapeutic approach called cognitive behavioral therapy that is designed to help clients learn to understand the relationship between their thoughts and feelings. By learning to “re-think” and perceive situations differently, people can also change how they feel. CBT has been clinically proven to help many clients in a relatively short amount of time with a wide range of concerns including anxiety and depression. Because real life happens outside my office, I encourage clients to pursue home learning tasks and to try new approaches to living between sessions. You can find more information on CBT on the NAMI website.

Above all, I tailor my style to match the individual needs of each client that I work with. I affirm diversity and recognize the harm that comes from discrimination.  No matter what your race, ethnicity, religious/spiritual beliefs, age, or sexual orientation I welcome you to my practice and value your unique history.
